What do I need to get started?
Printer: A home inkjet will do, but it needs to be able to handle heavy cardstock (see Paper below). You can also have a local print shop make prints for you. Be sure you are printing without scaling!
Paper: We recommend a heavy white cardstock (110lb/199gsm) or photo paper for printing. Different types of paper will yield different levels of print quality. Lighter paper may warp easily or tear with use. Heavier paper may be harder to craft some items with.
Crafting tools: The big three are a self-healing cutting mat, a cork-backed metal ruler and a craft knife. There are many styles of craft knives available, and you may find some more comfortable to work with than others. We use snap-blade craft knives here.
Glue: There are many options for glue. Inexpensive white (PVA) glue works fine on small areas like tabs that connect edges together, but use it sparingly as it can warp the paper or cause the ink to bleed. For large flat areas, rubber cement, glue sticks, double-sided tape or spray glue can be used.
Foam core: For our modular terrain tiles, 5mm foam core is used as a lightweight and easy to cut crafting material.
Markers: Using a marker to color in the cut and scored edges of papercraft can really improve the look of a piece. If possible, have a variety of colors on hand. Common colors to use are a light/medium gray, brown, dark green, black and tan.
